The NCR RealScan 83 offers a dense 24-line scan pattern that is shot at the
bar code by a 5,500 rpm motor, smothering it with 92 patterns per second, comprised
of 2,200 scan lines. This engulfing, web-like array of scan lines lets the
cashier aggressively scan anywhere in the scan volume and receive a speedy
and accurate scan. In the case of a problem label, NCR s patented PACESETTER
3software quickly recognizes label defects that may exist, corrects them, and
then sends accurate information to the POS terminal. In addition, these poor
quality labels can be tracked and then traced to the retailer s supplier for
